So Long

Earlier today ESPN’s Marc Stein took to twitter to announce that the Mavericks have waived guard Josh Akognon

Similar to the waiving of Bernard James, this move is somewhat expected. Unlike the move to cut James, though, Dallas had a crowded back court after the NBA draft and free agency. It’s puzzling why Dallas would still be interested in Akognon with their line up. Dallas arguably has enough undersized guards who have trouble defending.

Akognon is a talented, if undersized player. Having watched every game of Summer League, I feel safe saying that if he were 6’3″ instead of 5’11″ Akognon would be a multi-year NBA vet at this point. His ability to shoot under any circumstances (including ill advised ones) is something to see in person. Wherever he ends up, we at the Two Man Game wish Josh Akognon good luck.
