Happy Trails
In the wake of signing center Samuel Dalembert, the Dallas Mavericks have been forced to cut Bernard James. More from Mark Stein

More on the signing from Stein here.

This is disappointing, but not entirely surprising. When James had to go back to Dallas for “personal reasons” it was widely assumed it was for contractual related issues. James voluntarily pushed back his cut date in order to give Dallas more time to work out the details of the Monta Ellis contract. Bernard James will probably not clear waivers, so we can reasonably assume his time in Dallas is done.

Dallas now has three big men: Dirk Nowitizki, Samuel Dalembert, and Brendan Wright. Wright is still technically a free agent, but Cuban still refers to him as a Maverick. It’s generally understood that he’ll resign with Dallas once the other contracts go on the books to push Dallas over the cap. They have Wright’s early Bird rights, and can sign him if they go over the cap.

This leaves three open roster spots for Dallas to fill before season begins.
