Heard It Through the Grapevine

Well ranking Shaq ahead of Haywood was inexcusable – I can't imagine any Mavs fan being optimistic if they had made that switch in the offseason.

How is David Lee (who is not a center) ranked ahead of any of those guys? Or to put it another way, please let David Lee guard our centers every game. Seriously Mr. Dwyer.
Also, am I the only one on the planet who remembers the way Dirk used to eat Pau's lunch when he was in Memphis? T-Mac is criticized for never winning a playoff series, but until Gasol went west, HE HAD NEVER LED HIS TEAM TO A SINGLE PLAYOFF GAME VICTORY! How does a guy suddenly become the best PF in the game simply by changing zip codes?
Given the proof of the 4 PF's careers, it's pretty simple: Duncan & Dirk are the only 2 guys on that list who have LED their teams to any kind of accomplishment. Without Kobe, Pau & the Lake show get bounced rd 2 at the latest.
And come back and tell me how GREAT Amare is after the Knicks edge out Indiana or the remains of the Sixers for the East's 8 spot with a 38-44 record.

I'm not very happy with the ranking either (especially the center part), but it should be noted that Dwyer ranked players based on their projected performance next year, not their previous achievements. Seen this way, there's nothing terribly egregious in ranking Pau above Dirk, I guess.

I agree with your point that it's funny how changing to co-star next to Kobe can raise the profile. Two years ago, noone in their right mind would have ranked Pau above Dirk. Now, it somehow seems more defensible.

Amare over Dirk is REALLY weird, though.

I really don't get all the Pau love. He's a nice player, maybe the fourth or fifth best PF in the league, on a great team. How is that not the obvious and general consensus? Better rebounder than Dirk, significantly worse scorer, and nothing special as a defender. It's not like there's a GM out there who would trade Dirk for Pau….I'm PRETTY sure….
