  • With his triple-double Saturday against the Kings, Jason Kidd became the third player in NBA history to record a triple-double at age 37 or older.
  • Mike Fisher of Dallas Basketball sorts out some of the mess in the standings: “The Mavs are the No. 2 seed if they win out… Dallas can lose one game as long as Utah loses one game… Dallas can lose one game as long as Denver wins its final… What about home-court advantage? That is now guaranteed for the first round.”
  • Dirk Nowitzki has made 68 consecutive free throws, breaking his previous franchise record of 60. The NBA all-time record is 97 consecutive free throws made by Micheal Williams. Mark Cuban on the streak, via the Dallas Morning News: “I’m not going to talk about it, because it might jinx us.”
  • Tom Haberstroh of Hardwood Paroxysm looks into %Blkd data with some interesting Mavericks stats. Brendan Haywood is one of the most blocked players in the league, Jason Kidd is one of the least blocked, and Caron Butler gets blocked way more than he should: “Butler’s stint in Dallas has not been a slam dunk… He’s had his shot blocked a whopping 23 times in his time in Dallas, a high total considering he only takes a few shots at the basket per game. He’s traditionally been blocked more than average but this is definitely something Mavericks fans should note as they march into the playoffs.”
  • Brendan Haywood could have returned to the game if needed after twisting an ankle Saturday night in Sacramento.
