Bad News for People Who Like Bad News
Apparently it wasn’t enough for the Spurs to simply take the Mavs’ dignity, they had to take Josh Howard, too. Howard is out indefinitely after missing the second half against San Antonio, although most reports seem to indicate that this is more of a precautionary move than anything. Here’s Rick Carlisle, via Eddie Sefko on the DMN Blog:
“We’re going to shut Josh down again for a while, just to make sure he gets some more time to rehab and strengthen it…He hasn’t had any setbacks or anything like that. We just feel it’s the best thing. There’s no definite time period.”
The Mavs REALLY want Howard at full strength before he jumps into the regular season grind, and they’re willing to wait as long as necessary. Josh’s return to injury land will likely bring Quinton Ross back into the starting lineup.

Oof. Fantasy owners everywhere are devastated.

Unless they own Terry.
It’s good to rest him, but this is ridiculous. I appreciated how he played through the pain in last year’s playoffs. But we can’t just consider the regular season as lesser than the playoffs. Each victory matters, team chemistry matters. We want Josh at his best, but maybe that means easing him back in instead of throwing him in full-steam, Carlisle.

problem is, they were already easing him and his ankle still acted up, chaz.

id rather him be 100% fit, than play at 70% and possibly aggravate it.
sure we might end up with a lower seed, but with jho healthy we can win games against the best west teams away from home anyway… without him we would be losing at home anyway imo
ps - shouldnt this be titled ‘bad news for people who like good news’ or ‘good news for people who like bad news’?

Although I’m one of the LEAST patient people anywhere, I’m really not to bothered with resting Josh. I agree with everyone else, it’s early, better to rest him NOW than later. And HOPEFULLY when Josh comes back he’ll be full strength and NOT have to sit again because of his injury. And in trying my best to be a half glass full type of gal, isn’t it fun watching Roddy Beaubois out there playing? Man, I hope he gets more burn! This kid could be really awesome with playing time.
GO MAVS!!
