Wonderful.

Chris Sheridan ranked the Mavericks’ first round draft pick in 2010 as the 6th most valuable asset in the NBA trade market right now.  Awesome, right?  RIGHT?!

Well, it’s only valuable because it’s not in the hands of the Mavs.  Dallas forked over it’s completely unprotected 2010 pick to New Jersey in the Kidd-Harris “swap” (heavy quotes because the Mavs also gave up two first-rounders), meaning the Nets are trading with house money.  They’ll get their own pick in 2010, which should be a decent late lottery/mid-first round selection, and they get to toy around with the idea of trading away Dallas’ pick to the highest bidder, or doubling up on picks themselves.  You’re welcome, guys.

    Draft picks ?
arent you sposed to use the draft picks, like other teams are ?
seems the Mavs can only send their pick to the Italian League, when im sure shan foster could have out produced gerald green or shawn williams, maybe even J-Ho !
    Hmmm..........?????

Jared, I didn't see the Clippers' or Bucks' picks mentioned, who has them?

What a horrible idea not to protect that pick though, we knew the west was 9-10 deep when we did it, it's always possible to miss the playoffs. Worst trade in Mavs history?
  • He either is only referring to transferred picks as you described, or is just trying to be reasonable. I'm not sure. But while I'm sure the Clips or Bucks would be quite reluctant to fork over their almost guaranteed lottery picks, the Nets might be willing to include the Mavs' pick in a deal...although since they're in the 2010 scrum just like everyone else, I'm not sure what they would hope to get back in a trade.

    Who knows.
  • Seems like an awfully half-baked list. How is Dallas' first round pick in 2010 more valuable than say, the Clippers'? Or the Bucks?

I guess he's just using picks that have already been transferred but that doesn't make much sense to me.
